Welcome to New Covenant Community Church! Thank you for visiting our website. Roughly twenty years ago the Community of the Crucified One bought an old Jewish Synagogue in Homestead, PA, under the leadership of Bishop Edward Donovan and converted it into a Christian Church. The Church had a lot of use in the years following its 1993 dedication as “The Temple of the Crucified One.” In June of 2008 Bishop Donovan went home to be with the Lord and the Church leadership was handed over to Bishop Jonathan Stewart and his wife Bethany Stewart who served the church till January 2017. During those years, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the directive imparted to them, it became clear that God was directing the local congregation in Homestead and the greater Pittsburgh area, to add to itself a new name for its local congregation, “New Covenant Community Church.” Before the name was announced to anyone, they took the matter before the Lord and asked for confirmation. That same week, following their prayer, Bishop Stewart was approached by a member of the congregation who handed him a book and said that the Lord had directed him to give to him. The title of the book was “The New Covenant.” Bishop Stewart and his wife decided to keep this confirmation to themselves and seek the Lord for further confirmation. The week after they received the book, they attended a dinner event with no particular assigned seating. At each seat however there was a scripture rolled up and sealed for the occupant to read and take home. Bishop Stewart and his wife chose their seats and when he opened the scripture at his particular seat it read:
“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. (Hebrews 8(b)-10)
To God be the Glory! We who have accepted Jesus Christ are a new creation because of the New Covenant, bought by his blood and redeemed from our sins. Jesus loves us and He came to fulfill that which man could not fulfill under the old covenant. We recognize and respect the old covenant for it was purposed by God to stand as a holy and impenetrable force that would cause mankind to look forward and towards the One who would save us from our unworthiness. Jesus came not because we are worthy of him, but because he, who is Worthy before God our Father, loves us and desires that we should live with Him, His Holy Spirit and His Father for all eternity. No matter what has happened in your life, no matter how you feel or what you have done, Jesus loves YOU unconditionally! This is the story of our congregation, New Covenant Community Church.
